Hyperbole: An exaggeration or overstatement. Both Southerners and histrionic women, alike, speak in hyperbole as a rule. Woe be unto the man who finds himself tangled with a southern histrionic woman.
An Example from Literature: Carl Sandburg in his poem, "The People, Yes"
It's a slow burg—I spent a couple of weeks there one day.
My Try: Ice clinked thunderously in his glass as Netty came in the door. The familiar noise stopped her cold on the carpet. "Where ya' been Netty?" asked Charlie Duggan. "You know Lou Ellen won't like to find out you been over at her house when she's not home." Just then, Mary Alice and Jim pounded down the stairs to greet their mother.

Many of my childhood community migrated to Illinois from Kentucky and Arkansas after the Civil War. Hyperbole runs strong there still. My dad was a master. thanks for an excellent post!
I love your attempt. I was instantly transport to the humid south, drinking sweet tea.
Whenever I've applied Sandburg's example in conversation ("I played LaCrosse one day for a week!), all I've gotten in return was a year's worth of blank stares.
I would leave a hyperbolic comment for your post, but this comment box is only so big, and could not possibly contain the ka-zillions of well-deserved compliments it requires.
I have officially collapsed in utter shock and amazement at the examples in this post.
