The Goods on Good Sportsmanship

I'm hanging out at The Mom Tini Lounge today sharing my thoughts on good sportsmanship and how we can teach it to our children. As parents we have to remember that youth sports offer our children the opportunity to master the skills of winning with poise and losing with composure. And they watch how we react to both situations for cues as to how they should as well.

The full article has a funny little story about my youngest son as well as several tips for keeping sportsmanship at the focus of all sports Check it out:

Great article Lucy! Both of my boys played on several teams throughout the years, and I think that they showed better sportsmanship than many of the parents and coaches! Your son sounds like a great baseball player, and it's smart that you've already started teaching him how to be a gracious team player. Julie

My youngest son started kicking a soccer ball from an early age,
It was his entire life, played for his school and County also for the town we lived at , He left school and played pro. for a long while then one year he had his jaw smashed, the following year his ankle, so reluctantly gave up playing and went to Spain to live.
He is still besotted with the game.
I am all for teaching children how to play sport and it's the taking part that counts.

Yvonne.

Good article, Lucy! Up here, it's hockey that gets a lot of attention, and unfortunately the stereotype seems to be of the crazy parent in the stand blowing their stack.

Aren't hockey parents supposed to be a little nuts?

I'm glad my son was never interested in sports. My little geek....

In the south, baseball parents are the ones losing their minds. I guess football parents do too, it's just a lot harder to yell at football referees and have them hear it.
